Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG)
About the Role
Mid Pacific Engineering is seeking a California Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) with geotechnical consulting experience to join our growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of development and infrastructure projects while taking a hands-on role in subsurface investigations, geologic interpretation, technical reporting, and construction-phase services.
The successful candidate will be involved in geotechnical investigations, subsurface exploration, geological interpretation, technical reporting, field observations, and coordination with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients.
We are looking for someone who can bring sound professional judgment to projects, communicate effectively with engineers and clients, and take ownership of their work as they grow with the company.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and participate in geotechnical and geologic investigations for residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial developments, public works, and other land development projects.
Perform site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, geologic mapping, soil and rock logging, test pit observations, and other field investigations.
Interpret subsurface and geologic conditions and translate field and laboratory data into practical project recommendations.
Prepare and contribute to geotechnical and engineering-geologic reports, including site characterization and evaluations of grading, foundations, slopes, seismic hazards, expansive or collapsible soils, and other geologic conditions.
Provide geologic support during construction, including grading and excavation observations and evaluation of conditions that differ from those anticipated during design.
Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other technical documents and communicate findings to project teams.
Work closely with geotechnical engineers, construction materials testing personnel, special inspectors, contractors, and clients to support projects from investigation through construction.
Participate in project and client meetings and help develop scopes, schedules, and budgets as your project responsibilities grow.
Provide technical guidance to junior staff and field personnel.
Required Qualifications
California Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) license.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
10+ years of experience in geotechnical consulting or a closely related field.
Strong understanding of subsurface exploration and geotechnical site characterization.
Experience with soil and/or rock logging and interpretation of geotechnical field and laboratory data.
Experience preparing or contributing to geotechnical or engineering-geologic reports.
Ability to read and interpret geotechnical, civil, and grading plans.
Strong technical writing, communication, and professional judgment.
Valid California driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $120,000 - $196,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

Project Geologist
Mid Pacific Engineering, Inc. (MPE) is seeking a mid-level Project Geologist in the Greater Sacramento Area with a strong interest in pursuing a career in engineering geologic and geotechnical engineering consulting. MPE is a multi-disciplined consulting firm providing services in Geotechnical, Engineering Geology, Construction Inspection and Materials Testing.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manage and/or perform geotechnical field investigations:
Scheduling field work for specific scopes of work
Executing field work in compliance with effective relevant health and safety practices
Visual field reconnaissance and soil and rock logging
Geologic evaluations: geologic maps, cross-sections, borehole and trench logs.
Perform geologic hazards evaluations including projects in seismic hazard zones and prepare related technical reports.
Perform numerical slope-stability analyses.
Engage in geotechnical engineering assessments, analyses, and designs.
Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and schedules.
Performing other geological activities as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology
5+ years of direct relevant experience in the geotechnical engineering industry
Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) licensure highly preferred, California Professional Geologist (P.G.) licensure, or. Candidates on track to obtain CEG licensure will also be considered.
Strong analytical and communication skills
Thorough understanding of soil and rock mechanics
Experience with projects within Seismic Hazards Zones

(MPE) is seeking an Entry-Level Geologist in the Greater Sacramento Area with a strong interest in pursuing a career in engineering geologic and geotechnical engineering consulting. MPE is a multi-disciplined consulting firm providing services in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Construction Materials Testing & Inspection.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with competitive compensation, a benefits package, and opportunities for future advancement. The position typically averages approximately 40 hours per week, with seasonal variation and potential opportunities for overtime. Compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, and performance level.
MPE emphasizes and encourages continuing education, professional development, and career advancement. Most work performed in this position can be applied toward State requirements for Professional Geologist exam registration.
Roles and Responsibilities
Perform and assist with geotechnical field investigations, including logging and sampling exploratory borings and test pits, field permeability testing, field mapping, and visual rock identification for the presence of naturally occurring asbestos.
Assist with geologic evaluations, including slope-stability evaluations and numerical analyses, as directed by project-level professionals.
Prepare and support technical documents, including geologic hazards reports for schools, hospitals, and essential services facilities.
Assist project-level professionals with geotechnical consulting tasks, including proposal preparation, drilling permit preparation, technical deliverables, and related project support.
Perform other geological and geotechnical activities as directed.
Develop field and technical experience with the opportunity to advance into project management responsibilities over time.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related course of study
Prior experience in geological or geotechnical consulting, particularly field investigation, is beneficial; however, this is an entry-level position and training will be provided.
Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and work in various site conditions and project locations
Competence in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, for preparation and presentation of written work
